A professional who is friendly and down-to-earth, (check!)
A professional who is available year-round and doesn’t disappear after April 15th. (check!)
The Simple Process
I use a secure Portal / Client Management System through TaxDome. All clients need to have an account set up through Tax Dome (details provided to new clients). All of our online activity from onboarding, to sharing tax documents, to reviewing and signing your prepared tax return, to messaging, and paying your invoice can take place within TaxDome. There is an app that you can download or you can use the desktop website.
Activate your account on TaxDome. Download the app if you’d like.
Complete the annual Client Information Organizer and sign your Engagement Letter (inside TaxDome).
Submit your tax information /documents digitally via TaxDome, by mail, or in-person to get in the queue. Deb prepares returns in the order that all information is received.
When Deb prepares your tax return, she will reach out with any questions or clarification needed.
When your return is completed, you will receive a draft copy for review within TaxDome.
Review your return carefully and pay your final invoice.
If changes or adjustments need to be made, just let us know!
Upon approval, you will sign or e-sign the E-file Authorization Form, and
Deb will e-file your return!
For new clients, I will need a photocopy or scan of your Drivers License AND Social Security Card (both primary taxpayer and spouse, if applicable). I will also need copies of your dependents’ (children’s) social security cards and/or birth certificates. If you are eligible for the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit, I may need additional verification. (IRS Rules, not mine.) Please also provide copies (digital or hard copy) of your last two tax returns (new clients only). Often there is information from earlier returns that directly affects your current year return.
Tax returns are prepared in the order in which all of the necessary information is received by Deb Evans. When all information is received, your return will enter the queue. Turnaround depends on the number of returns in the queue at the time, the complexity of the return, and how quickly the client is able to respond to queries about their return and complete the process. The earlier you get started, the earlier your return will be started and finished.
Client Information Form - Every client needs to have a Client Information Organizer updated every year.
Fees: Personal tax return preparation starts at $350. Tax return preparation starts at $650 for sole proprietors and real estate investors/landlords (filing Schedules C and/or E on your personal return). Fees may go up based on the complexity of your return and the amount of extra behind-the-scenes work your files need. (Fees cover tax return preparation only*.)
*(Tax Planning and/or Bookkeeping are not included in these fees. Tax Planning may be arranged as a separate engagement. For bookkeeping, I am happy to refer you to my favorite bookkeeping pros.)
We use a fair, flat-fee system. You will be quoted a firm fee once Deb has received and reviewed your information. Your fee covers everything, including e-filing. There will be NO nickel-and-diming and no surprises. We do offer some optional, upgraded services, including tax planning, financial coaching, and monitoring your IRS account to make sure we are there to help you when you need us. In the rare case, additional information causes your proposed fee to change, you will be notified immediately. It is not unusual for a client to forget they own a business or sold their home until after I’ve started work on their return. ;)
Deadlines
For timely filing of all personal returns due April 15th, all of your tax information must be received by Deb Evan no later than March 15th. If your information is received later than that, you may need to file an extension. If so, I will let you know and will file the extension on your behalf as long as you’ve completed the Client Information Organizer and signed the Engagement Letter. The final filing deadline for extensions is October 15th. Your complete information must be received by me no later than September 1st to guarantee filing by the deadline. If you do not meet this deadline, then you will be charged a premium fee to ensure timely filing.
Please note: If you have a filing extension, that does not extend your deadline to pay taxes. If you will owe tax (or if you usually owe tax), you may want to pay towards your tax bill with your extension filing. I’m happy to provide more information for those that need it.
S-Corporation and Partnership tax returns (returning clients only) are due to the IRS March 15th. Your information, including your Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet must be in my office by March 1st, or I will file an extension to file to September 15th. If you have an extension, I must receive your complete information no later than August 15th, or you will be charged a premium fee to ensure timely filing.
Note: An extension to file to September or October does not mean your return won’t be filed until then. It just means that is the next deadline. I generally take some time off over the summer. Otherwise, I continue to prepare returns in the order the information is received throughout the summer and until the deadlines.
Reminder: An extension to FILE is not an extension to PAY. Tax payments are still due April 15th or penalties and interest may apply to your return.
Shoebox Lists - Checklists to help you organize your financial information at tax time. I do not require you to prepare an organizer; however some clients prefer it for their own convenience.
